Just Older Youth (JOY) has been busy. We had a fund raising Tea Dance in March which was well attended. We even had visitors from the US who had never attended a Tea Dance before
This was a Tea Dance with a difference. No palm court orchestra but a lively steel band! We raised £500.00 for Diabetes Lewisham.
We believe that classes should address both mental and physical well being. So, we not only provide various physical activities, we also have an art class which is thriving.
We are hoping to have an exhibition of students’ work in summer. This month we went to Tate Modern as part of their ‘Art into Life’ programme. We will be visiting other galleries in the future. We are also planning ‘taster workshops’ and other trips. One of the workshops will be on theatre that includes singing. So, if you are interested in any of our classes please get in touch with Coral on 020 7732 1995 who will be happy to send you further information. JOY members are a very friendly bunch and always welcome new members.
Our aim is to get people to join in and take part especially those who are lonely or isolated. With this in mind, we keep classes affordable. No class is more than £1.50 per session and our annual membership fee a mere £3.00. JOY is a voluntary, user-led project based in New Cross and the only paid workers are the tutors.
