Everyone likes a success story
Triumph over adversity is always something we like to hear about and that’s the theme for the first in a series of new films from local resident and budding film maker Kiah Steadman. The recent University of East London film graduate first featured in The Gate Post after successfully completing his first film Enemy Friend (An Antiviolence concept) which proved a huge success with local people.
Comedy drama
His second venture sees him team up again with his close knit production team (I vision Media) to chart the story of a group of local girls enjoying the fruits of their labour and all the trappings that come with a successful lifestyle. What makes this short film so interesting is that it looks at issues from within the community (Deep in the heart of London) where ‘even a normal day can seem like a movie’.
‘Ghetto Fabulous’ is a 40 minute comedy drama based on the reality of what people are doing and how people are living. From the little people have, they grow and turn their lives into positivity” said Kiah.
Quite apt when you think that the film is self financed, and uses amateur actors/actresses, local venues and a range of technical support (i.e. cameramen etc) all giving their services for free. In addition to his film making skills, Kiah is devoted to helping local people with an interest in film by running a series of workshops aimed at 16-25 year olds.
The workshops usually run for 12 weeks and cover all aspects of film and film making. Zea who acts and works on production and is part of the ivision team said: “This is a celebration. We’re showcasing emerging new talent and working with a number of people who wouldn’t normally do this sort of thing. The film is our version of Eastenders except its more Southenders. Since embarking embarking on the project, Zea has a clear vision of where he sees his career going – “In 5 years time I’d like to be running my own production company and working on some serious acting roles – the right roles”.
Copies of the film are retailing for £7 but The Gate Post readers who contact info@gettofabuloustv.co.uk and mention this feature will get a copy delivered to their door for a modest £3.50. Now that’s Fabulous!
