Services for Young People

Under Fives Stay and Play Sessions – We deliver a high-quality and unique 0-5s stay and play session, three days per week (term time), in the wonderful environment of Besson Street Community Garden. These sessions run:
Monday, 9.30 – 11.30am
Tuesday, 9.30 – 11.30am
Wednesday, 1.30-3.30pm (including a family Yoga session for the last hour)

COVID update – our stay and play services are currently ticketed, so that we can control the numbers for these sessions and keep everyone safely socially distanced.  The booking system will open one week before each session (accessible from the ‘book a course’ button on the right of this page). Please be mindful that we want as many people to access these sessions as possible.

When on site, you will be expected to wash your hands (or use sanitiser) on arrival, and regularly throughout your stay. As per current legal requirements, adults will also be required to wear a face covering and maintain 2m social distance from one another. We recognise that the children will not be able to maintain these distances or wear a face covering, therefore our stay and play staff will ensure that the play equipment is cleaned regularly during and after your session. Please also ensure that your child regularly washes/sanitises their hands.
Do not attend the session if you or your child feel unwell, or have any symptoms which could relate to COVID-19. Thank you for your understanding.

You and your family will receive a warm welcome from the lovely Mina Ramsamy who leads these sessions. Whatever the weather we spend some of our time playing in the wonderful garden we are so lucky to have, so please dress appropriately. All sessions are free, although we do ask that if possible you make a donation towards the running of the services. This will help us to buy new toys and equipment for the sessions.

“I’ve been coming to Besson Street Community Garden Stay and Play for 6 months. It is the best one in the area. It is free but really high quality. The staff are welcoming and very caring. There are lots of different cultures and languages spoken here and everyone is made to feel welcome and equal, I like that”.

Joe’s Ukelele Band – Come along to our ukulele classes for young people aged 7-12 years old, every Tuesday from 3.45-5pm at Besson Street Community Garden. Learn how to play, read music and perform with Joe, our highly qualified and very experienced music teacher. The classes are for beginners or those with a little experience of playing, and cost just £1 per week. We can supply the Ukulele if you don’t have one, or you can bring your own.
To find out more or book call Jill on 0207 639 7605.

The Wildly Fun Skills School – Every summer we run a fantastic two-week summer project for 7-13 year olds in Besson Street Community Garden. This includes experimenting with a wide range of activities including yoga, ukulele, basketball, crazy science (slime, bubbles and ice-cream making), arts and crafts, singing, circus skills and lots more. Every day is fun and different.
