We are looking for someone with energy, experience and sound debt advice knowledge to help us establish a debt advice service at New Cross Gate Trust. We are offering this service under the umbrella of Community Money Advice (CAM).

Location: New Cross, South London SE14 5AE
Job type: Part-time, one-year contract with possibility to extend
Hours: 7 hours per week
Salary: £35k pro rata

This service will involve trained volunteers and additional paid debt-advice workers as demand grows.

Senior Debt Advisor Job Responsibilities

  • Provide a telephone or web based service for clients accessing the charity
  • Effectively validate, gather and analyse information provided by a client in order to help them deal with their priorities and to provide them with a solution to allow them to deal with their situation for themselves on an ongoing basis
  • Use effective listening and negotiation skills to develop and agree realistic client budgets that fully reflect the client’s situation and best advice
  • Present all solutions by describing the advantages and disadvantages according to the clients personal situation and to make a recommendation based on this information
  • Ensure that all advice and solutions are presented in accordance with the charity’s policies and procedures (and thereby compliant with FCA and Debt Management directives)
  • Supervise volunteers dealing with first stage debt advice
  • Support volunteers and paid advisors
  • Help develop and establish the service
  • Conduct case reviews (at some point in the future)
  • Collect and collate monitoring information. Senior Debt Advisor Requirements:
  • Telephone and customer contact experience
  • Experience of working in a client focused environment
  • Dealing with complex queries
  • Knowledge of money advice
  • Ability to explain technical information in a way which is easily understandable to others

Senior Debt Advisor Job Requirements

  • Experience of working in a client-focused environment

  • Previous experience in a similar senior debt advice capacity
  • Relevant qualifications/training to a minimum of level 2 equivalent in money/debt advice
  • Thorough knowledge of debt management option, including Debt Relief Order, insolvency, bankruptcy
  • Experience of supervising other staff
  • Competency in maintaining records and collecting data
  • Strong communication skills
  • Respect and empathy for the service users
  • A self-starter

About The New Cross Gate Trust

The New Cross Gate Trust is a registered charity. We are based in the beautiful Besson Street Community Garden, where we provide a wide and varied range of services to our local community of New Cross Gate in South East London.
